First Responder Refresher Course Overview: The first responder refresher program is a 3 day program designed to refresh the experienced responder in his or her basic first aid skills.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this training the student will be familiar with: • Performing CPR • Utilizing an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) • Managing airway problems • Using oxygen delivery devices and apply oxygen • Monitoring blood pressure and vital signs • Performing initial patient assessment and ongoing assessment until advances care arrives • Basic fundamental documentation of emergency medical care • Managing bleeding emergencies and splinting potential fractures and related injuries Written Exam: American Heart health care provider exam requires a minimum passing score of 84%. First responder final exam minimum passing score 74%. Persons with physical limitations are not encouraged to participate but exceptions can be made due to certain circumstances. Ambulance rotations are voluntary and it is done locally only if slots are available. The rides consist of a 5 hour ride along on the ambulance in the pre-hospital environment. Retraining: Bi-Annual refresher training is required. |
