    Course Length:  4 hours 

    CFR Reference:  29 CFR 1910.1200

    Overview: A training module that meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines for training and awareness pertaining to the hazard communications standard. This module fulfills basic requirements for those employees who may be exposed to hazardous chemicals. The module further fulfills the basic requirements outlined in Occupational Safety and Health guidelines, Code of Federal Regulations 29 CFR 1910.1200.

    The course specifically trains employees to know that they are exposed to hazardous chemicals, how to read MSDS sheets use and read labels and that a consequence of learning this information, they are following the appropriate protective measures established by the employer.

    Course Required by:  OSHA

    Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this training the student will be familiar with:
    • Hazard Determination
    • Hazardous Chemical List
    • Material Safety Data Sheets
    • Definitions associated with Hazard Communications
    • Hazardous Material Labeling System
    • Employee Training

    Written Exam:  SMS requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

    Students will use actual MSDS sheets to determine safety information on simulated chemical container prior to handling the product.

    Retraining:  Whenever there is a new physical or health hazard that the employees have not previously been trained on, it is then introduced into their work area. AIS recommendation is a 1 year refresher.
