    Length of Course: 8 hours

    CFR Reference: 29 CFR 1910.155, 156, 157

    Overview:  This course will familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage firefighting.

    Course Required by:  OSHA

    Prerequisites:  None required.

    Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this training the student will be familiar with:
    • Chemistry of fire
    • The fire triangle and tetrahedron
    • Spread of fire
    • Products of combustion
    • Classification of fires
    • Extinguishing agents and their use

    Written Exam:  SMS requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

    Trainee must identify proper types of extinguishers to use on different classes of fires. They also must identify the proper portable fire extinguishers for class A, B, and C class fires and use it to extinguish a fire (this exercise is conducted once for each class of fire). Immediate action must be taken upon encountering an accident or medical emergency by the trainee.

    Retraining:  Student is responsible for retraining every year.
