Overview: Employers must use a qualified rigger during hoisting activities for assembly and dis-assembly. Additionally, qualified riggers are required when workers are within the fall zone and are engaged in hooking, unhooking, or guiding the load, or in the initial connection of a load to a component or structure. Employers must ensure that the qualified rigger has the ability to properly rig load work for a particular job because there are different types of rigging jobs and each load that requires rigging has unique properties.

Course Description: The 8hr Qualified Rigger training is designed to fulfill the training requirements for Qualified Rigger person under the new OSHA requirement 1926.1400, as well as to provide the class attendee an overview of hazards related to rigging and in the establishment of safe and proper rigging practices.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of Qualified Rigger training, the student will be familiar with:

• Basic Rigging Principles
• Rigging Component Identification
• Mathematical Calculations
• Sling Selection
• Rigging Inspection
• Wire Rope and Chain Design
• Proper Rigging Techniques

Written Exam: Written and hands-on competency will be evaluated at the end of each course. SMS requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

Retraining: Student is responsible for retraining every 2 years.
