Qualified Rigger Overview: Employers must use a qualified rigger during hoisting activities for assembly and dis-assembly. Additionally, qualified riggers are required when workers are within the fall zone and are engaged in hooking, unhooking, or guiding the load, or in the initial connection of a load to a component or structure. Employers must ensure that the qualified rigger has the ability to properly rig load work for a particular job because there are different types of rigging jobs and each load that requires rigging has unique properties.
