Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) Awareness

Overview: The Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) Awareness course is designed for the awareness level only. This course is designed for the person that wants to know the hazards of NORM. This course will cover subjects such as where NORM comes from, how to identify possible NORM areas, and how to protect yourself from NORM.

Course Length: 2hrs | CFR Reference: 29 CFR 1910.97; 29 CFR 1910.1096; Chapter 14 Title 33 LADEQ | Course Required By: Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality for persons working in areas with possible NORM contamination and OSHA (persons working in the area of possible NORM contamination)

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) Awareness course, the trainee will be familiar with:

Where NORM comes from
What NORM is
Exposure controls and PPE related to NORM
Basic radiation safety
Biological concerns

Written Exam: Exam and hands-on competency will be evaluated at the end of each course. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

Retraining: If employee changes job or performance indicated need for retraining.
